Belgian social-profit organization that gives people their sight back.
Arties is a Belgian social profit that sells high-quality acetate sunglasses in western markets with high purchasing power. The proceeds from the sale are used to provide free eye tests and prescription glasses to people in developing countries. The high purchasing power of the consumer in these markets makes it possible to make an incredibly huge impact with a relatively small contribution per person.
Changing lives.
The inequality in access to eye care is appalling. While eye care is a given in many western countries, it remains out of reach for large parts of the world. People in remote or poor areas often do not have access to affordable eye care. Most cannot afford glasses or a simple eye exam.
The impact of visual impairment goes beyond health problems. It forms a vicious circle of poverty and exclusion. Children who cannot see well fall behind in school, have to go to work and miss out on opportunities for a better future. Adults with visual impairment are less productive or lose their jobs, leading to economic insecurity.
We focus on the two most common causes of visual impairment and blindness, namely refractive errors (such as nearsightedness or farsightedness) and presbyopia. Both are usually very easy to treat with glasses, but still remain untreated.
“Glasses may seem like a simple solution, but for millions of people it means the difference between survival and a life full of possibility, opportunity and dignity.”
- Artiom Sergeyevich, founder
